New Mail Notification
Back in the 1990's, a great new feature was added to Mail apps (called programs in those days) like Eudora and Claris Emailer...
You could choose your own sound to play when a new mail message came in. It was a great way to distinguish your incoming mail from someone else's if you were out in the office common space.
So here we are in the 2020's, and there still is not an option in Outlook to choose a custom "new mail" sound!
In the Options, there is a checkbox for "Play a sound" when new messages arrive, but...
Is there an option to select a sound?
Absolutley not!
How difficult would it be for Microsoft to add that option?
Probably not too difficult. Here's proof. In a nearby setting for reminders, although it's anyone's guess as to why it is under "Advanced", you can browse for a custom sound.
Some of you might suggest changing the system sound, but honestly, there are a couple things wrong with that. First of all, this is an application sound/notification. The operating system shouldn't dictate the notifications of an application, and second, it just plain doesn't have any effect with Outlook 365.
And Microsoft, by the way, don't you think it's time to go through these sound options and remove about 90% of them, like these archaic items:
New Fax Notification
Office97-Reminder
And while you are at it, if you want to organize all application notifications in one place, then why don't you organize them in this list by application rather than listing most everything under "Windows"?
