Things That Suck

Back in the 1990's, a great new feature was added to Mail apps (called programs in those days) like Eudora and Claris Emailer .

You could choose your own sound to play when a new mail message came in. It was a great way to distinguish your incoming mail from someone else's.

So here we are in the 2020's, and there still is not an option in Outlook to choose a custom "new mail" sound!

In the Options, there is a checkbox for "Play a sound" when new messages arrive, but...

Is there an option to select a sound?

Absolutley not!

How difficult would it be for Microsoft to add that option?

Probably not too difficult. Here's proof. In a nearby setting for reminders, although it's anyone's guess as to why it is under "Advanced", you can browse for a custom sound.

I just migrated to Office365 from a locally-installed and managed Exchange server, which has been trouble-free for as long as I can remember.

I was previously filtering messages to a Junk Email folder by looking for a unique IronPort header, specifically this one: "X-Spam-Status: Yes".

The first thing I need to do, though, is turn off automatic junk mail filtering.

Done!

Wait! What's this in my Junk Email folder? I told Outlook not to filter out junk mail!

Apparently, the desktop version of Outlook cannot communicate this to Outlook 365, so it was necessary to log onto Outlook365.com to also change the setting to stop junk mail filtering.
